Dear Parents and/or Caregivers
ASH WEDNESDAY MARKS THE BEGINNING OF THE LENTEN SEASON
Yesterday marked the beginning of the Lenten season. The Gospel for Ash Wednesday gives us good advice on how we are to act during Lent. Jesus speaks of the three main actions of the Lenten season: giving alms, praying and fasting. All of these spiritual activities, Jesus teaches us, are to be done without any desire to be recognised by others. Each of the actions are to be done out of love of our neighbour, not in order to be seen by others. Through the season of Lent we are preparing for the Risen Christ at Easter. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. The law of fasting binds those who have completed their eighteenth year until the beginning of their sixtieth year. The law of abstinence (no meat) binds those who have completed their fourteenth year. Please note meat will not be served in the Canteen on Fridays during Lent. Thank you to Mr Groves and Mrs Dorsett for preparing our Ash Wednesday Liturgy and thank you to Fr Joseph who was able to lead the service.
Amazingly we were able to have a formal College assembly for the first time since Term 2 last year. The Registration and School Improvement Panel were welcomed and able to experience ‘live music’ thanks to the Year 11 Music class who performed “Here Comes The Sun”. It was beautiful and we were Trinity again.
SHROVE TUESDAY
Shrove Tuesday (also known as Pancake Day) is the day preceding Ash Wednesday. In most traditions, Shrove Tuesday is the day known for the eating of pancakes before the start of Lent. Pancakes are eaten as they are made of the main foods available: sugar, oil, flour and eggs. Generally, their consumption was traditionally restricted during the ritual fasting associated with Lent. Trinity celebrated Shrove Tuesday by sharing pancakes at breakfast on the Quad which was followed by the Annual Pancake Day Race across the MET Quad. This year it included an obstacle race which was great fun. There is still an ongoing dispute as to who won! As always, it was great to be in community. Thank you to Mrs Dorsett and Ms Suro, for organising this fun and delicious activity for our community. Thank you to the student leaders who assisted in cooking the pancakes.
WELCOME BBQ
Due to COVID restrictions, we were unable to hold our annual Welcome BBQ at the beginning of term. Instead, we will hold our Welcome BBQ on Thursday 7 April 2022 (in the last week of term). Further information will come to you closer to the event.
COMMUNITY COUNCIL
Our Annual General Meeting for the Community Council took place last week. Congratulations to Angela Remington and Rick Shipp who were unanimously elected as Chair and Vice Chair.
Happy weekend when it arrives!
Yours in faith, strength and unity,
Gaye McManus
Principal
- The School Swimming Carnival will be held tomorrow Friday 11 February 2022.
- Students are required to arrive before 8:45am and are to see their homeroom teacher located in their Year Group area to have their name marked off for attendance. Entry into the pool is included in school fees.
- Attendance and participation for all students is compulsory - Championship and Non - Championship Events available.
- PE Uniform is to be worn to and from the carnival - you may change into house colours once the roll has been marked.
- Students should ensure they wear hats and sunscreen, in line with the College ‘Sun Safe’ policy.
- Students should bring a packed lunch and drink. Alternatively, the Pool canteen will be available to purchase selected food items. Due to COVID and limited pool space, there will be no BBQ offered this year. NO TAKE AWAY FOOD is to be ordered and delivered.
- Due to COVID restrictions spectators will not be allowed to attend. If you would like to be a parent volunteer on the day, please contact Miss Broadhead via email sophie.broadhead@cg.catholic.edu.au
- Due to the large number of events scheduled for the day, the limited time available and the fact that local bus lines are beholden to existing contracted routes and unable to alter these, Goulburn based students are expected to make their own way to-and-from the Aquatic centre for the carnival. Whilst it is also desirable for students from out-of-town areas to make their own way to-and-from the Aquatic Centre, we realise that in many cases this will be difficult. As such, out-of-town students will be offered a shuttle bus service to and from the College, enabling them to utilise usual bus services in the morning and afternoon. Further information will be provided regarding this service.
- The 2022 Long Distance Carnival will be held next Wednesday 16 February from 12:30pm - 3:30pm
- THIS IS A CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT ONLY Please NOTE: Students have to pre-register for the Long Distance Carnival via the Google Forms https://forms.gle/WCZkFqEBce2VgwEc8
- A shuttle bus will be available to transport swimmers to the Swimming Pool on the day.
- Canteen available.
- Due to COVID restrictions no spectators will be allowed. If you would like to volunteer as a parent helper for the day, please contact Sophie Broadhead via email sophie.broadhead@cg.catholic.edu.au
- Full PE Uniform and appropriate Racewear required.

The College should be notified of any foreseen student leave. An Application for Exemption Form is available from the College Office and is required to be completed by parents/carers and returned to the College at least 10 school days prior to any leave. Leave or travel over 10 days requires a different form; please contact Reception. If, during the period of leave, your child has assessments due they should also complete the Notification of Planned Absence form which is in the appendix of their student assessment handbook.
When your child needs to leave School early, please make sure they complete the following steps:
1. A written note signed from their parent/carer. This note can be made in the Student diary on the day of the planned absence, or on a separate piece of paper.
2. The student then takes the note to Homeroom and asks their Homeroom teachers to sign it.
3. The note must also be signed by a House Coordinator.
4. The student comes to the front office with their signed note.
5. Front office staff assist student to sign out.
6. Students wait for parent/carer to collect them.
Please note, parent or carer MUST present to the Office to collect student.
