What is BYOD?

“Bring your own device (BYOD) refers to technology models where students bring a personally owned device to school for the purpose of learning. A personally owned device is any technology device brought into the school and owned by a student (or the student’s family), staff or guests”. (Alberta Education, 2012)

Our BYOD program is designed to give students and families freedom to make choices that are best for you and your child. We will give advice on minimum specifications, which we recommend to meet the requirements of the work being done at the College, as well as at home.

What type of device can a student bring?

A Laptop or a Tablet with a full Keyboard are appropriate devices for the Trinity BYOD Program.

The College does not manage the computer or provide warranty services for any device used as part of the BYOD programme.

It is recommended that you purchase Insurance for your device.

Families do not need to purchase software such as Microsoft Office as this will be supplied if needed. Trinity Catholic College will provide all software which we require students to use.

This includes access to Google Apps For Education, and where required Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office access.

Before using the device at the College, parents and students both need to sign the Acceptable Use Policy.

This policy outlines all expectations and rules associated with the use of technology at the College.

Every student at Trinity Catholic College is expected to bring their own device to school each day and ensure it is charged and ready for use.
