Dear Parents and Carers
RUGBY GALA DAY
We had a fantastic day of trial games last Saturday against Canberra Grammar School, Chevalier College and Broulee. There were many supporters who came to watch the games being a truly great community event. Thanks so much to all players, coaches, managers, parents, supporters and staff. Particular thanks to Ms Sophie Broadhead, Rugby Coordinator, and Mr Jason Moroney, President of the Trinity Catholic College Junior Rugby Club, for their leadership.
YEAR 7 CAMP
Year 7 students were very excited yesterday as they travelled to Stanwell Tops for their Camp. We've had positive reports about very happy campers and look forward to more stories upon their return. Thank you to Mr Treloar, Mr Galiazzo, Mr Morton, Mr Reily, Mrs Dorsett, Ms Hart and Mrs O’Brien for being so willing to attend camp and hence allow this opportunity to our students.
REMINDERS
Year 7 and 9 students will sit NAPLAN tests next week commencing on Tuesday 10 May 2022.

A PRAYER FOR MOTHERS
Let us remember in prayer the work mothers do, and the life and wisdom they share with their families. Let us prayer for our mothers and for the generation of mothers before them.
You care for us O God, as a mother cares for her children. Protect and strengthen, nourish and bless all mothers of the world. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Dealing with Distressing World Events
In today’s world of social media and a 24/7 news cycle, hearing about current stories and world events is inevitable. Whilst the news can bring with it messages of hope and joy, a vast majority of major news coverage on all platforms describe natural and humanitarian disasters, the pandemic, wars, and more. Watching, reading and hearing about distressing world events can cause feelings of stress, sadness, anger and anxiety, and absorbing this information can be tough, especially for teenagers. While we can’t avoid bad news, there are things we can do to make ourselves feel better about what’s going on in the world today.
Be Aware of Your Mindset – Focus on the Good
It is easy to think negatively when you watch as the world suffers from COVID-19, floods and wars. Having a positive mindset does not mean that you ignore the bad things happening in the world, rather it means that you are proactive in how you react to these events and what you do to help yourself and others. For example, try to actively look out for the positive responses that come from tragic events, for example the helpers and the people doing kind or heroic things in response to tragedies. By having a positive mindset, we foster hope in ourselves and our communities and begin to feel better about what’s happening in the world.
Try incorporating into your routine some good news articles and focus on the good. Stories of hope, love and faith make us feel better about watching the news. See below for regular good news updates:

Take Action
Find something positive to do in response, so you feel you make a positive difference in the world, like volunteering in the community, or choosing to become allies with other people who might need support. If you would like to help in some way, you could speak to your local church or Trinity community and discuss what can be done. Knowing you are helping can ease stress and anxiety and give you a sense of purpose.
Self-Care
There is nothing self-indulgent about taking care of ourselves when we respond with distress to events near or far. As humans we are naturally wired to empathise, so it is normal to feel sad, and it okay to find ways to cope or ask for help. Self-care can look different for everyone and is a way to give yourself a break and breather so that you can function well each day. Some examples of self-care are going for a walk and listening to music, watching a movie with family or friends, or taking part in prayer or meditation. It is important to give yourself time every day to slow down, relax and take care of yourself. Find out what works for you and integrate it into your routine.
