Dear Parents and Carers, Students and Staff,
RECONCILIATION WEEK: BE BRAVE. MAKE CHANGE.
Next week across Australia marks Reconciliation Week celebrating two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey; the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision. The week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to explore how each of us can join the national reconciliation effort. Reconciliation Australia’s theme for 2022 is “Be Brave. Make Change.” This is a fantastic theme challenging all of us to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians. Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians. Everyone is asked to make change beginning with brave actions in their daily lives including where they live, work, play and socialise.
SUBJECT SELECTION EVENINGS 2023
Later this term, Year 8 and Year 10 students will begin the process of selecting subjects to be studied next year as electives in Year 9 and subjects in Year 11.
The Year 9-2023 Elective Subject Information Evening will be held on Tuesday 14 June 2022 from 6:00pm until 7:00pm in the Great Hall. There will be a formal presentation commencing at 6:00pm with opportunities for questions and answers. The presentation will include understanding NESA requirements, elective subject choices and elective subject selection process. Following the formal presentation, parents and students will be able to meet and discuss elective subject selection with Subject Coordinators and course teachers.
The Year 11-2023 Subject Selection Evening will be held on Wednesday 15 June 2022 from 4:00pm until 6:30pm in the Great Hall. There will be two formal presentations, one at 4.30pm and one at 5.30pm, with opportunities for questions and answers. The format of the evening allows the College to cater for all students and parents to select an earlier or later session at your convenience. We have also invited representatives from Universities and Apprenticeship Centres to set up stalls on the evening for transition (career) path guidance and course discussion. Throughout the entire evening, students and parents will be able to meet and discuss subject selection with Subject Coordinators, course teachers and students who are currently studying the course.
We look forward to meeting with all Year 8 and Year 10 families at these two important evenings.

COMPANION PRAYER
FOR RECONCILIATION WEEK
Lord, we are companions on the journey
Only you Dear Lord
Know the identity and depth of me
You know my hurts ad pains
Those frustrations I feel in this land
So please, I ask you take my hand
And comfort me
Reconcile and guide me in justice and in faith
For we’re on our way to Alice
Where you expressed your love for me
Lord, set me free
And let me be the servant I want to be
Lord, I thank you
For hearing and understanding me
For Lord, You are always on my mind
And on my lips and in my heart
And there’s simply no other way
That it could be.

Helping Young People to Destress
Just like adults, young people can and do experience stress about a variety of issues. For most young people, situations and challenges that can seem small to adults can feel very overwhelming or all-consuming and it can be hard to know what to do. So how can we support young people through their stressful times?
Identify what they are feeling
Adults can help young people when they are stressed by supporting them to identify their emotions. Just like adults, young people feel anxious, sad, angry and all the other emotions that can come over us when we feel stressed. Once the feeling has been identified, it is easier to support your child to express and manage the feelings in helpful ways. Encouraging young people to practice mindfulness and self-care, such as journalling, being creative, exercising, praying or meditating, can also help them express their feelings and improve their stress.
Listen and validate
Young people can feel more stressed in situations where they feel alone or that the people around them don't understand their feelings. So, simply listening and validating young peoples’ feelings can help them feel more centred and secure. Avoid comments that suggest “it’s not a big deal” or that they will “get over it”, even if you know that’s the case. All feelings are valid and when they are not acknowledged and respected, young people are likely to bottle up their emotions and feel alone in their stress.
Encourage open communication
In order to stay on top of a young person’s issues, it is important to encourage and practice open communication. This means respecting when a young person is speaking, what they are saying, and how they are feeling. Honesty is also important, and a simple “I’m here for you, how can I help?” statement can make the world of difference. Remember: you don’t always have to know the answer - but knowing what is causing the stress means you can help in small ways and be there when they want to talk about it.

Online Enrolments:
It was a very special surprise, and a privilege for the Club and College on Tuesday when six Brumbies players came for a visit, five of whom are (or will be) Wallabies!
Over 80 players from the Club were in attendance to learn from a few legends of the game. Scott Sio spoke at the gathering at the end of the session and encouraged the players to enjoy their rugby, and more importantly their time playing with their mates and friends.
Thanks to the coaches and managers who helped out.

The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at Trinity Catholic College.
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. It must be completed in one session; you cannot come back to it.

YEAR 12 PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Parent/Teacher interviews for Year 12 will be held next Tuesday 31 May 2022.
All interviews will be held via phone and will take place between 4.00pm and 6.00pm.
These interviews are very important as they facilitate communication between home
and school, strengthening the partnership, and openly discussing areas that need to
be addressed.
Please note these are the final parent teacher interviews for our Year 12 students.
The appointments will only be five minutes in length, so if you find that you require
more time, please make an appointment to speak with the relevant teacher at a time
that is convenient for you both later in the term.
Interviews must be booked online using the Parent Portal in COMPASS and can benow be arranged.
Bookings will close next Monday 30 May 2022 at 3.30pm.
Year 12 Half Yearly Reports are now available online through the COMPASS parent portal.
A guide on how to arrange interviews is below.
When your child needs to leave School early, please make sure they complete the following steps:
1. A written note signed from their parent/carer. This note can be made in the Student diary on the day of the planned absence, or on a separate piece of paper.
2. The student then takes the note to Homeroom and asks their Homeroom teachers to sign it.
3. The note must also be signed by a House Coordinator.
4. The student comes to the front office with their signed note.
5. Front office staff assist student to sign out.
6. Students wait for parent/carer to collect them.
Please note, parent or carer MUST present to the Office to collect student.
The College should be notified of any foreseen student leave. An Application for Exemption Form is available from the College Office and is required to be completed by parents/carers and returned to the College at least 10 school days prior to any leave. Leave or travel over 10 days requires a different form; please contact Reception. If, during the period of leave, your child has assessments due they should also complete the Notification of Planned Absence form which is in the appendix of their student assessment handbook.
WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU!
We love to hear about our students' achievements, so please feel free to send through any information about your child's achievements to info.tccg@cg.catholic.edu.au by Tuesday of each week. We look forward to hearing from you! Also, be sure to visit our facebook site!
