Dear Parents and Carers, Students and Staff,
TRINITY SUNDAY COMING UP
As is the usual practice, Trinity Catholic College will be celebrating the Feast of the Holy Trinity with the Goulburn Parish Mission on Sunday 14 June 2022. This is the long weekend and I understand many families will have made plans to go away, however, if you are around on the long weekend you are warmly invited to Our Lady of Fatima Church on Sunday 14 June 2022 at 10am to celebrate Trinity Sunday with the College and parishioners. We take our College name from the celebration of this important feast. It is from the Trinity (the Father, Son and Holy Spirit) that we derive our motto of Faith, Strength and Unity. In 1425 CE, Andrew Rublev, a Russian monk painted the icon of the Trinity in which three angelic figures are seated around a small table engaged in conversation. On the table is a chalice and in the background is a tree. At the front of the table is a space inviting us into the meal and conversation. There is a print of Rublev’s Icon as you enter the front office.
INFORMATION EVENINGS
The Year 9-2023 Elective Information Evening will be held on Tuesday 14 June 2022 from 5:30pm until 6:30pm in the Great Hall. There will be a short presentation followed by an opportunity for you to speak with Subject Coordinators, teachers and students who currently study the elective subjects.
The Year 11-2023 Subject Information Evening will be held on Wednesday 15 June 2022 from 4:00pm until 6:30pm in the Great Hall. The same presentation will be made at 4:00pm and 5:00pm followed by an opportunity for parents and students to speak with Subject Coordinators, teachers and students who currently study Stage 6 subjects.
STAGE 6 REPORTS
Our first online reports were made available to Year 11 and 12 parents and students last week via the COMPASS portal. This is a significant event in our school to be moving from paper reports to delivering reports online to parents. With the move to online reporting, the College has made the decision to not include general comments at the end of each subject report. Instead, parents will receive detailed information about their child’s achievement of learning outcomes, engagement with learning behaviours and some recommendations about how their child can make further progress in their learning. As a Leadership Team, we strongly believe the time it takes to construct, proofread, and correct general comments can be much better spent. There will be an opportunity for parents to provide feedback on the new reporting format once we have concluded reporting for all year levels.
NEW SCHOOL WEBSITE
We have a new College website. It can be accessed from the following address: https://trinitycollege.nsw.edu.au/. If you wish to access the COMPASS portal through the College website, COMPASS sits underneath the heading ‘Education’.
2023 ENROLMENTS
Our enrolment drive for 2023 has begun in earnest. The official enrolment period for Catholic Schools in this Archdiocese concluded last Friday 27 May. However, in regional areas we continue to take enrolments, so if you have a child entering Year 7 next year, please contact Reception for an enrolment form. An interview will be organised once the enrolment application is received. If your friends have a child commencing in Year 7 next year, please encourage them to consider Trinity as an option for their child’s education. There is provision for an online enrolment which can be accessed through our website at the following address: https://www.trinitycollege.nsw.edu.au/enrol-online/
PUPIL FREE DAY
Just a reminder we have another pupil free day next Friday 10 June 2022.
Happy weekend and best wishes to all our sporting teams on the weekend!
Yours in faith, strength and unity
Gaye McManus
Principal
TCCG STRATEGIC GOALS 2022
- To improve student learning through building teacher capacity, using data to inform classroom teaching and learning, and strengthening leadership in learning.
- To improve wellbeing (staff and students).
- To be an explicitly Catholic community welcoming to all.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen

The Importance of Sleep
It’s a well-known fact that sleep is incredibly important for everyone. Sleep is the body’s chance to rest and reset for the next day. For young people, sleep is especially important because their bodies are going through their formative years and need recovery in order to change and develop. Despite sleep being so important for young people, good sleep patterns are often resisted due to a variety of reasons such as screens and social media, worrying/racing minds, and other distractions. So how can parents and carers support their children to have better sleep patterns?
Maintain Routine
It can be difficult to go to sleep at the same time every night, however maintaining some routine is important so that the brain knows when to relax and prepare for rest. It can be a good idea to have a limit to how late your child can stay up for, and they can choose to go to bed before or on that time. A pre-bed routine is also helpful for a good sleep, and can include brushing teeth, reading a chapter of a book or listening to a relaxing podcast. Every person is different, but young people should be aiming for at least 8 hours of sleep per night. A good sleep routine also includes waking up at a reasonable time each morning. Remind your child that while it may be difficult at first, their body clock will adjust, and it will get easier.
Avoid Stimuli
Avoiding screens is extremely important and we should not be looking at phone, television or computer screens for at least one hour before bed. This is because screens stimulate us, not relax us. Screentime reduces the quality of our sleep and does not allow us to wind-down properly.
Other common stimuli can include caffeine and energy drinks. These should be limited and not consumed during the afternoon or night.
Create a Good Environment
Young people will sleep easier if they are in a comfortable, tidy environment. It is also a good idea to encourage your children not to do homework on their bed. Their bed is supposed to be a place of rest and relaxation, and it can be harder to switch off if they have spent all afternoon working on it.
Check-in Before Bed
Sometimes young people can struggle to sleep due to stress. There are many worries that can keep young people up at night – from social issues such as friendships and bullying, to school issues such as assignment stress. It can be helpful to check-in before bed and offer comfort or advice if they need it.
If you are worried about your child’s sleep, check in with their GP to discuss this further. For more information, read this with your child:https://headspace.org.au/explore-topics/for-young-people/get-enough-sleep/.

TELL THEM FROM ME - PARENT SURVEY
We would like to invite you to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community, we would greatly appreciate your feedback.
The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at Trinity Catholic College.
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. It must be completed in one session; you cannot come back to it.
You are able to access the parent survey on your computer or mobile device by using the URL below:
The College should be notified of any foreseen student leave. An Application for Exemption Form is available from the College Office and is required to be completed by parents/carers and returned to the College at least 10 school days prior to any leave. Leave or travel over 10 days requires a different form; please contact Reception. If, during the period of leave, your child has assessments due they should also complete the Notification of Planned Absence form which is in the appendix of their student assessment handbook.
When your child needs to leave School early, please make sure they complete the following steps:
1. A written note signed from their parent/carer. This note can be made in the Student diary on the day of the planned absence, or on a separate piece of paper.
2. The student then takes the note to Homeroom and asks their Homeroom teachers to sign it.
3. The note must also be signed by a House Coordinator.
4. The student comes to the front office with their signed note.
5. Front office staff assist student to sign out.
6. Students wait for parent/carer to collect them.
Please note, parent or carer MUST present to the Office to collect student.
WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU!
We love to hear about our students' achievements, so please feel free to send through any information about your child's achievements to info.tccg@cg.catholic.edu.au by Tuesday of each week. We look forward to hearing from you! Also, be sure to visit our facebook site!
