TUESDAY’S SNOW

What a wonderful day it was on Tuesday. Students and staff were excited, happy and very much exhilarated by the snow coverage at Trinity. Thank you to Dane Sara, Rowan Bone and Katie Suro for their beautiful photos featuring students and the Campus.

YEAR 12 FAREWELL

Congratulations to each of our Year 12 students who graduate from Trinity Catholic College next Tuesday 24 September 2019. We are very proud of their successes and achievements which will be acknowledged for the final time next week. Their final day is huge commencing with breakfast in the Red Hall followed by a homeroom farewell with homeroom buddies, Graduation Mass, Luncheon and the Graduation Assembly.

TRINITY MEMORIAL BOARD

For the final time tomorrow as Parish Priest, Fr Dermid will celebrate Mass with Trinity Catholic College community. The Mass will include a Blessing of the Trinity Memorial Board in honour of students and staff who were born into eternal life whilst members of the Trinity community. The mass and blessing will take place tomorrow Friday 20 September at 10.30am in the Chapel of St Patrick. The Memorial Board is an initiative of the Trinity Catholic College Community Council. Previous members of the Trinity Community to be honoured include Sandie Kennedy (2003), Julie Barber (2004), Chad Selby (2009), Greg Cleary (2013) and Tim Woolley (2017). The families of each of our past Trinity members have been invited to the Mass and blessing which will be followed by a morning tea. Parents are most welcome to attend.

FAREWELL FR DERMID

Fr Dermid concludes his work as Parish Priest of the Goulburn Mission very soon. The work of a parish priest can never be underestimated. In recent years, priests have been under a lot of pressure with increased demands. The drop in the number of vocations, the increasing complexity and demands on priests in their parishes (many priests, including Fr Dermid, have had to look after several parishes) has impacted on the priesthood. Priests are battling on doing wonderful and dedicated work in their parishes, but we recognise that at times it is tough. I take this opportunity, on behalf of the Trinity Community, to acknowledge how much we appreciate the service Fr Dermid has provided to the Trinity Catholic College community. He has attended numerous meetings and celebrated many school masses, as well as providing all the necessary wisdom and spiritual guidance required of a Priest to a Principal. Over recent weeks students and staff have had the opportunity to thank Fr Dermid for his service to the Trinity community. The Community Council farewelled Fr Dermid at their August meeting. Fr Dermid is very much looking forward to his retirement following the Goulburn Mission’s pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi which commences in the final week of this term. Mr Groves will be attending the pilgrimage as well so we wish him all the very best on this journey with his parish.

STAFF LEAVE

Mr Groves and Mrs Spence will be on leave for all of Term 4 along with Ms Lock who will be away for the first four weeks. Mr Groves and Mrs Spence’s loads will be absorbed within our staffing and Ms Lock will be replaced by Mrs Williams and Mrs Hupalo. Ms Scott and Mrs O’Brien will be on leave for the first week of next term.

ONLINE SAFETY EXPO: Parent Forum

The Trinity Catholic College Community Council is hosting an online safety expo parent forum early next term on Tuesday 22 October 2019 from 6pm until 7pm in the McAuley Centre. The expo will have a number of drop-in exhibits and interactive displays focusing on online safety. Goulburn Police will be in attendance as well as a representative from the Australian Government’s Office of the eSafety Commissioner. Thank you to Lauren Shinfield, Assistant Principal Curriculum, for taking the lead in coordinating this event. Further information will be provided next week. 

CHRISTUS VIVIT: CHRIST IS ALIVE

We have an amazing pope in Pope Francis. Earlier this year he wrote a letter to young people and all people. It is an easy read and whilst I was away earlier this term, I was able to read parts of it. Whilst there are many interesting paragraphs, it was the following paragraph 133 which has stayed with me and I would like to share it with you:

Are you looking for passion? As that beautiful poem says: “Fall in love!” (or “let yourself be loved!”), because “nothing is more practical than finding God, than falling in love in a quite absolute, final way. What you are in love with, what seizes your imagination, will affect everything. It will decide what will get you out of bed in the morning, what you do with your evenings, how you spend your weekends, what you read, whom you know, what breaks your heart, and what amazes you with joy and gratitude. Fall in love, stay in love, and it will decide everything”. This love for God, that can approach everything in life with passion, is possible thanks to the Spirit, for “God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (Rom 5:5).

SUMMER UNIFORM

The commencement of Term 4 means students return to the College next term in their full summer uniform. It would be appreciated if parents and carers could ensure that students return with all required uniform items. Polished shoes would be appreciated as well so a reminder to your children to do this would be much appreciated.

Please keep our wonderful Year 12 students in your prayers as they move through the final week of their secondary school life at Trinity and commence the HSC Examinations at the beginning of next term. As well, we need to remember in prayer our hardworking Year 11 students who are in the middle of their annual Examinations.

Enjoy the weekend with your family and I wish you a very happy and safe holiday, or change of routine, when it arrives.

Congratulations to Bailie, James, Eleanor and Oscar for their hard work in extra-curricular English competitions this year. Showing their local pride, Ellie and Oscar each wrote a 1500 word essay on the history of Railway in Goulburn for the 150th anniversary celebrations and each won a $50 book voucher. Bailie won $250 in the Education Perfect Opinion piece competition, writing a scathing report on NAPLAN and the stress it causes individual students. Finally, James adapted a scene from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet into 2019, and directed two actors from the Australian Shakespeare Company on how to make his screen come alive. All students can watch this via Education Perfect.

Congratulations to John Ryder Edwards who has has been selected to represent NSW Country at the upcoming Australian Country Cup for Basketball in January 2020.

Well done John, we wish you the best of luck in January!

Wellbeing Week culminated in Trinity’s acknowledgment of R U OK? Day, a national day of action that encourages us all to check in with our mates. Students and staff wore yellow accents, contributed to a wellness display, attended an assembly and shared lunch together. Following a student-led prayer focused on light, Nathan Hulls, a motivational speaker and resilience specialist, spoke to us about social and emotional intelligence, resilience, overcoming adversity and creating our own destiny. His inspirational words perfectly endorsed our 2019 school theme, ‘Be who you were created to be, and you will set the world on fire’ (St Catherine of Sienna)

Students in their final year of school are considered a high-risk group for depression and anxiety. Sleep deprivation, diet and social media are some of the biggest issues faced by this group of teens. Therefore it is vitally important that a student's mental health is looked after as well as their physical health.

Keeping things in perspective for students and parents alike, can help prevent everyone getting overwhelmed. Although this final year is important, it is not necessarily the most important year of your child's life.

There are many strategies that students can implement to help themselves. Parents can provide support, not only emotionally, but also practically by keeping their child well-nourished and encouraging physical activity.

In this special report, parents will find useful tips to support their child during this often stressful time. We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered here and we always welcome your feedback.

When your child needs to leave School early, please make sure they complete the following steps:

1. A written note signed from their parent/carer. This note can be made in the Student diary on the day of the planned absence, or on a separate piece of paper.

2. The student then takes the note to Homeroom and asks their Homeroom teachers to sign it.

3. The note must also be signed by a House Coordinator. 

4. The student comes to the front office with their signed note.

5. Front office staff assist student to sign out.

6. Students wait for parent/carer to collect them.

Please note, parent or carer MUST present to the Office to collect student.

Students should be wearing full Winter uniform including the wearing of their school blazer to and from school.

Students should return in full Summer Uniform on Tuesday 13 October - Term 4.

**All sizes of tracksuit pants are now in stock. Please note these are a more narrow fit and have elasticised cuffs, therefore students may need to go up a size.

The Uniform Shop is open on Thursdays from 3.00pm - 6.00pm. When visiting the uniform shop, you will be required to sign in.

Students can check homeroom bags for items

The College should be notified of any foreseen student leave. An Application for Exemption Form is available from the College Office and is required to be completed by parents/carers and returned to the College at least 10 school days prior to any leave. Leave or travel over 10 days requires a different form; please contact Reception. If, during the period of leave, your child has assessments due they should also complete the Notification of Planned Absence form which is in the appendix of their student assessment handbook.

Goulburn & District Meals on Wheels are looking for volunteers to join their organisation in the delivery of meals to Goulburn's frail and aged, and people with disabilities in the local area.

They operate between the hours of 11.15am & 12.45pm, Monday to Friday. Each volunteer will have to fill in a Volunteer application and undergo a Police Check courtesy of Meals on Wheels.
