Dear Parents and Carers, Students and Staff,
STUDENT LEADERSHIP 2023
Some Year 11 students are currently participating in a process to determine the student leadership team for 2023. Applicants for College Student Leadership positions must comply with all College expectations and procedures. The following process determines the student leaders:
- completion of a signed nomination form addressing particular selection criteria
- presentation of a speech at our College Assembly
- voting by Years 7-12 students and staff at Trinity Catholic College
- attendance at a panel interview with the College Executive Leadership Team
Student leader positions will be determined by the panel after taking into consideration the nomination, speech, voting, interview and suitability based on the selection criteria.
7-10 REPORTS
The 7-10 Half Yearly reports will become available over the next two days. This semester we are moving to online reporting via COMPASS. Rather than receiving a paper copy of a student’s report, parents and carers will receive their child’s report online via COMPASS. With the move to online reporting, the College has made the decision to not include general comments at the end of each subject report. Instead, parents will receive detailed information about their child’s achievement of learning outcomes, engagement with learning behaviours and some recommendations about how their child can make further progress in their learning.
STAFFING UPDATE
At the end of this term, we farewell Mrs Helen Morgan and Mrs Kristie Miners. Mrs Morgan was relieving for Mrs Parsons this term who was on leave. Mrs Kristie Miners is moving to another employment opportunity. I will miss her enormously as we have worked together for four years. Thank you to Mrs Morgan and Mrs Miners for their service, commitment and dedication to the Trinity community.
Following panel selection processes, the resulting appointments have been made commencing Term 3:
- Mrs Renee Funnell – Executive Assistant to the Principal
- Mrs Leanne Rutherford - Classroom Support Assistant
- Mrs Beverley McGreevy – Classroom Support Assistant
- Mrs Jayne Torley – Classroom Support Assistant
Congratulations to each of them on their appointments and I wish them a very happy association with Trinity Catholic College.
WINTER CONCERT
We held our annual Winter Concert last week for the first time in the Great Hall. How wonderful it was to come together as a community and enjoy the musical talent of our students. Music warms and uplifts the soul. Thank you to Ms Lock and Mr Reily for coordinating the Winter Concert and preparing our students.
ENROLLING YOUR CHILD AT TRINITY
A College uniform and how students wear it says much about what a school may value. When a family completes an application for enrolment of their child at Trinity Catholic College, it means they are choosing a Catholic education for their child. It requires a commitment to support the philosophy, values and aims of Trinity and a willingness to cooperate in their implementation. Specifically it means:
- Religious Education is a core subject including participation in prayer and liturgy
- Catholic values are emphasised with all faith and non-faith traditions being respected
- Academic excellence and the acquisition of knowledge, understanding and skills are promoted within a Catholic framework.
The students are expected to adhere to Trinity Catholic College’s standards for:
- behaviour, dress and self-discipline
- application to learning and study
- participation in school activities
Parent cooperation is essential to assist their child attain these goals. Parents are expected to participate in the total life of the school including parent/teacher nights, school and parish liturgies, activities of the Community Council as well as participating in their child’s sporting life at the College. We look forward to seeing you at the College soon!
2023 ENROLMENTS
Our enrolment drive for 2022 continues. The official enrolment period for Catholic Schools in this Archdiocese has concluded however, in regional areas we continue to take enrolments, so if you have a child entering Year 7 next year, please contact Reception for an enrolment form. An interview will be organised once the enrolment application is received. If your friends have a child commencing in Year 7 next year, please encourage them to consider Trinity as an option for their child’s education. There is provision for an online enrolment which can be accessed through our College website using the following address: https://www.trinitycollege.nsw.edu.au/enrol-online/ .
PUPIL FREE DAYS TERM 3
As you would be aware, Ross Fox, Director of Catholic Education, has provided two further pupil free days next term. Trinity Catholic College in collaboration with the Catholic primary schools in Goulburn, Crookwell and Yass have agreed to the following days: Thursday 22 September 2022 and Friday 23 September 2022. These are the last two days of Term 3. All schools were very cognisant of the need for Year 12 students to maximise their days at school in Term 3 to ensure a successful HSC outcome.
IMPORTANT DATES TERM 3
18 July 2022 Staff Professional Learning Day
19 July 2022 Students return for Term 3 in full school winter uniform
As this is my last contribution to Trinity Talk this term, I would like to thank everyone for their good works. Staff and students have worked incredibly hard and these efforts are very much appreciated. Please remember Year 12 in your prayers as they prepare for their final term at Trinity. Please continue to keep Joshua Evans and his family in your prayers. Take good care over the holidays and as always enjoy the change of routine and stay warm! I look forward to seeing you in Term 3.
Happy holidays!
Yours in faith, strength and unity
Gaye McManus
Principal
TCCG STRATEGIC GOALS 2022
- To improve student learning through building teacher capacity, using data to inform classroom teaching and learning, and strengthening leadership in learning.
- To improve wellbeing (staff and students).
- To be an explicitly Catholic community welcoming to all.
“This is how everyone will know that you are my disciples;
if you love one another.” (John 13:35)
If students are displaying flu-like symptoms at school, parents will be required to collect their child from school and have a COVID test. If students are unwell, they must remain at home. Please continue to inform the school via phone if your child tests positive for COVID.
The Uniform Shop will open on Monday 18 July 2022 from 10am - 12.00pm, and then re-open from 1pm - 3pm
“Trinity Day is on tomorrow. Students are to wear PDHPE uniform for the day… Liturgy, trivia, activities for House points, and Trinity’s Got Talent! It’s going to be a day of fun and community spirit!”
TRINITY WELLBEING TALK - PERFECTIONISM
We often casually hear the term ‘perfectionist’ and picture someone who excels at their job or school, someone who is neat and tidy, or someone with a great work ethic. We may even compliment people on being a perfectionist or encourage perfection without realising the impact this can have. The reality is, there is a difference between high standards, which can be positive and motivating, and perfection, which can be unachievable and damaging. Knowing the signs of perfectionism and ways to support someone experiencing these can make a huge difference.
What is perfectionism?
Perfectionism is characterised by very high, often impossible, standards that someone expects of themselves, and the act of becoming self-critical if these standards are not reached. Perfectionists are often praised for their commitment, the quality of what they do, and their “never give up” attitude – but what many don’t see is that perfectionism can be crippling. Young people can experience perfectionism at school – and it can be related to body image, academic studies, sport/hobbies, and other aspects of their lives.
Some signs that a young person may be experiencing perfectionism include:
- Being afraid to try something because they may be wrong (e.g., not wanting to answer a question in class in case it is incorrect)
- Struggling to cope with mistakes – they may “dwell” on what you perceive as a small mistake, and may not be willing to try again after it
- Taking criticism very personally and becoming hyper-focussed on the negative (for example, losing one mark or missing one goal and focussing on that)
- Setting unrealistic goals and becoming distressed if unable to achieve them
- Difficulty or anxiety completing tasks because their work is never good enough
- Fixating on body image, fitness, health and generally never feeling good enough
How we can help
If your child has perfectionist tendencies, it’s a good idea to use the upcoming holidays as an opportunity for them to rest and create healthy habits and boundaries when it comes to schoolwork, hobbies, and anything else they may unhealthily focus on.
- Encourage and facilitate self-care and fun. Often when striving for perfection, young people can forget to do what makes them happy and can experience burnout. Remind them that it is just as important to have fun and take care of themselves than it is to achieve high standards.
- Encourage SMART Goals:
- Set priorities and realistic schedules
- Remind them that the goal is to achieve the task, not to make it perfect
- Make it known that goals can change, so can the process.
- Focus on praising effort, especially if the young person is unsuccessful at something. Comments related to their effort, rather than the achievement itself, are important as they help to decrease fear of not succeeding.
- Normalise making mistakes – if you make a mistake, use it as an opportunity to teach them about how to handle this. Try again, use humour, share your mistake – these are all examples of positive role-modelling that will help your child see that mistakes are normal.
- Reach out for help if you are worried – know that you are not alone and that your child has support opportunities at school (school counselling), and in the community (GP or mental health support). If you are worried, there is no harm in seeking support.

We need your help!
CUC are looking to build a program that builds aspirations of young people in our local area to access university and further education. We are looking for three students and their families to represent Trinity in 1-2 consultation/community engagement events to investigate the challenges local students face in pursuing higher education. You can be a younger student with your family who thinks they might like to go but don't know how you would because accommodation or fees make it hard, you can be an older student and family who is in senior years looking at applications and where to apply to or thinking it's too difficult to aspire to because of a range of reasons. We want to hear from you!
When would these events happen? Week 3 of Term 3.
If you are interested or would like to contribute to this consultation/community engagement event, please email naomi.gill@cg.catholic.edu.au
