On Tuesday 19 July, Jack McEntee participated in the NSW All-Schools Open Hockey trials in Newcastle at the Newcastle International Hockey Centre.
Jack represented the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges.

Congratulations Jack!
MANAGING AFTER SCHOOL EXHAUSTION
As we begin the second half of the school year, schedules are well and truly full, and life seems to keep getting busier. After school exhaustion is a real and common experience that many young people and their families deal with each week. Below are some tips to give yourself and your family permission to rest and prioritise wellbeing to avoid the post-school blues.
Expect an exhausted child– Especially for younger students, school is a place where they are putting a lot of effort into being on their best behaviour, so when they get home, they can lose their cool and act out. This may be tantrums, crying, yelling, or being naughty or unmotivated. Remember that this is normal behaviour, as they have spent the day working hard to follow rules, have social interactions, and concentrate, so at some point they need to let out their emotions.
Plan for downtime – School days are draining, and children and teens need to rest afterwards. When you notice a pattern of after-school meltdowns or exhaustion, try to clear their afternoon/evening schedule for the week where possible. Time for a young person to unwind is very important, so having one or two afternoons of hobby/activity-free time is recommended.
Have a healthy snack ready – Whilst young people eat and drink at school, often this is social in nature, and they may not consume enough to satisfy their needs. Having a healthy snack ready and encouraging water when they are home from school can prevent the “hangry” feeling many students get post-school.
Don’t take it personally – After school exhaustion can be tough on parents and carers too, who want to know how their child’s day was, and what they got up to. Sometimes when the child is so tired and limited in what they want to share, or they begin to act out because they are exhausted, this can be disappointing. It’s important to remember that it is not personal, and with time, space, food and rest, young people will open up when ready.
Sleep hygiene is important – Children and teens need to have healthy sleeping patterns and rest in order to avoid exhaustion. Limiting screen time before bed, having a routine, and a clean and comfortable space for sleep are important ways to maximise sleep hygiene. For more information on this – see the Wellbeing Talk article from Week 5, Term 2.

AUSTRALIAN PRIMARY PRINCIPALS DAY
Australian Primary Principals Day will be celebrated on Friday 5 August 2022. If your child attends one of our Catholic primary feeder schools, it would be so appreciated if you could acknowledge the good work of their Principals via a quick email: Mary-lou Gorham (Braidwood), Michael Green (Yass), Sarah Lowe (Crookwell), Matthew Mullins (North Goulburn) and Kathy Neely (Goulburn). There are fabulous and fantastic primary school principals at our public school feeder schools as well!! Every day each of the Primary School Principals contributes to the lives and learning of your children in our primary school communities. Three cheers to each and every primary school principal!
The College should be notified of any foreseen student leave. An Application for Exemption Form is available from the College Office and is required to be completed by parents/carers and returned to the College at least 10 school days prior to any leave. Leave or travel over 10 days requires a different form; please contact Reception. If, during the period of leave, your child has assessments due they should also complete the Notification of Planned Absence form which is in the appendix of their student assessment handbook.
When your child needs to leave School early, please make sure they complete the following steps:
1. A written note signed from their parent/carer. This note can be made in the Student diary on the day of the planned absence, or on a separate piece of paper.
2. The student then takes the note to Homeroom and asks their Homeroom teachers to sign it.
3. The note must also be signed by a House Coordinator.
4. The student comes to the front office with their signed note.
5. Front office staff assist student to sign out.
6. Students wait for parent/carer to collect them.
Please note, parent or carer MUST present to the Office to collect student.
