COVID-19 UPDATE FOR FAMILIES
Trinity Catholic College Goulburn continues to take advice from Catholic Education Canberra Goulburn in relation to COVID-19. I would like to remind all families:
- If your child is unwell, they should not attend school.
- Please ensure that anyone who presents with COVID-19 symptoms in your family is tested. Close household contacts should remain at home.
- Parents should avoid routinely entering the school where possible during school time unless they are collecting sick children.
A further five (5) Rapid Antigen Tests were sent home today with each student. Year 12 students will receive their RATs once Trials are completed.
Should you have any questions in relation to our College and COVID-19, please feel free to contact me at school.
PRAY FOR OUR YEAR 12 STUDENTS
Our Year 12 students commenced their Trial HSC Examinations earlier this week. Please keep them in your prayers during this time and over their final weeks of secondary schooling. It is an especially important term as it is their final one. Keep on going, Year 12!
FEAST OF ST MARY OF THE CROSS MACKILLOP
Next Monday 8 August is the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, Australia’s first beatified saint. Trinity’s MacKillop House is named after St Mary MacKillop.
A PRAYER TO ST MARY OF THE CROSS MACKILLOP
God of love your heart reaches out to those who are poor in our world.
Open our eyes and ears to hear the cries of your people bound down
by the injustices of this world.
May we, like Mary MacKillop, respond in word and action
to the struggling peoples of our world.
St Mary of the Cross, serving the neglected ones, pray for us.
We make this prayer in Jesus’ name. Amen
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
“Never see a need without doing something about it.” ~St Mary MacKillop~1871
Best wishes to our Trinity teams participating in weekend sport!
Yours in faith, strength and unity

UNWELL STUDENTS
If students are displaying flu-like symptoms at school, parents will be required to collect their child from school and have a COVID test. If students are unwell, they must remain at home. Please continue to inform the front office via phone 4821 3600 or via email absences.tccg@cg.catholic.edu.au if your child tests positive for COVID.
HOUSEHOLD CONTACTS
Parents are required to follow NSW Health directions when their child is deemed a household close contact and must notify the school to advise they are a household contact. It is strongly recommended that if a student is a household contact, they study from home where it is practical to do so. A household contact must wear a face mask in any indoor setting that is not their own home, if they are aged 12 years and over. Only students in Years 7 to 12 will be required to wear a mask when attending school if they are a houshold contact. Where a student attends school they must undertake a COVID test prior to returning to school and then each day for 5 days and may only attend a school if they have no symptoms.
RAT DISTRIBUTION
Students were issued with five Rapid Antigen Tests today. If your child did not receive a pack, please ask them to collect it from the front office. Year 12 students will receive their RATs after the Trial HSC Examinations.
SCHOOL BOARD AND COMMUNITY COUNCIL REVIEW
The Catholic Education Commission endorsed the establishment of a Working Group to review various aspects of Archdiocesan School Board and Community Council models.
During the course of this year the Working Group has engaged in targeted consultation with internal stakeholders and has had some preliminary discussions with a narrow group of external stakeholders, including representatives from the Catholic School Parents Archdiocese of Canberra & Goulburn.
The Working Group is now seeking to draw on the experiences, expertise and perspectives of parents and carers, school staff and members of school communities through a process of general consultation. To this end, an Issues Paper has been drafted outlining the key issues that the Working Group has identified to date and posing a number of discussion questions that the Working Group is seeking responses to.
You can go to the webpage: https://cg.catholic.edu.au/school-board-and-community-council-review/foreword/ to submit a response to the questions posed in the Issues Paper.
The closing date for submissions is 2 September 2022
Please see attached an information guide on how to use the parent portal for absences.
Thank you to all our generous donors for the blankets, towels and bedsheets we have received for the Vinnie's Winter Appeal. We are still collecting donations of funds or items, so please give if you are able. A massive thanks to MacKillop 5 who donated 7 very fluffy pink faux mink blankets last week!
Yours in faith

TRINITY WELLBEING TALK: SCHOOL REFUSAL
School Avoidance and Refusal
School refusal can be a challenging issue for students and their families and can be more frequent after school holidays where students have had a break from their routine and school. For many young people, refusing to go to school can be part of a larger issue, and it is important to provide support to assist them to go to school safely.
What is school refusal?
School refusal is when a student frequently does not want to attend school due to anxiety and worry about being there. This worry can become so great that the student refuses to attend school and may act out in order to stay at home.
School refusal can look like:
- Throwing tantrums and acting out when it is time to go to school
- Becoming increasingly anxious or worried on the Sunday before school, or the morning before a school day
- Complaining of illness/injury that requires them to stay home, but then symptoms go away once they are at home and have missed school
- Crying and begging not to go
- Trouble sleeping
Common school refusal causes include:
- Worrying about leaving the comfort of home (common in younger students and students who are new to a school)
- Learning difficulties – challenges in class that include not understanding key concepts, difficulty concentrating, finding all schoolwork “too hard”
- Social problems – bullying, fighting with friends, feeling left out
How can we help?
As a parent it can be hard to remain patient with your child when they don’t want to go to school, but it is important to take the time to learn why, and how your child can be supported.
- Learn about the issue from your child’s perspective. Have an honest and open discussion about what they are feeling and why. In doing so, you can gain an understanding of what support they need in order to attend school. If your child is having difficulty identifying the issue, a useful way to explore this is to ask them to rate each part of the day – homeroom, class, recess, lunch, bus ride etc. In doing so you can find the main issue together.
- Acknowledge feelings and manage expectations. It is important to acknowledge how your child feels and let them know they are not alone, and you are there to help. It is also important to let them know that they are still expected to go to school and will be supported to do so. Plan with your child about how you can work together to get back on track.
- Communicate with schools and other supports. Let the school know what is going on for your child and work together to collaboratively support them. Communicating to others involved with your child is also important (e.g., sport coach or music teacher). The best way to support a child is to have a team around them with a common goal.
- Reach out if you are concerned. School counselling is available if you are not seeing any improvement with your child, or if they would like to talk to someone else about the issues they are experiencing.
