UNWELL STUDENTS
If students are displaying flu-like symptoms at school, parents will be required to collect their child from school and have a COVID test. If students are unwell, they must remain at home. Please continue to inform the front office via phone 4821 3600 or via email absences.tccg@cg.catholic.edu.au if your child tests positive for COVID.
HOUSEHOLD CONTACTS
Parents are required to follow NSW Health directions when their child is deemed a household close contact and must notify the school to advise they are a household contact. It is strongly recommended that if a student is a household contact, they study from home where it is practical to do so. A household contact must wear a face mask in any indoor setting that is not their own home, if they are aged 12 years and over. Only students in Years 7 to 12 will be required to wear a mask when attending school if they are a houshold contact. Where a student attends school they must undertake a COVID test prior to returning to school and then each day for 5 days and may only attend a school if they have no symptoms.
TRINITY WELLBEING TALK - STUDENT & FAMILY COUNSELLOR
Building Self-Esteem
You may recall that the term self-esteem has been mentioned in many of these wellbeing talks, as it is closely related to body image, mental wellbeing, perfectionism, and self-worth. Self-esteem is an important aspect of everyone’s life and can often be a challenge for teens and young people. Thankfully, there are many ways that parents and carers can help build their child’s self-esteem and support them when it wavers.
Self-esteem in a nutshell
It is very normal for everyone to go through periods of low self-esteem – especially for teenagers who are experiencing changes and are learning about who they are. It is unrealistic to expect positive or high self-esteem all the time, but it is helpful to know how to boost self-esteem when you or your child needs it.
Having positive self-esteem means that you:
- Feel liked and accepted by peers/others
- Believe in your own ability
- Are proud of what you do and who you are
Low self-esteem generally means:
- You feel bad about yourself and feel that you are not accepted or liked by others
- You are very hard on yourself
- You often feel you are not good enough
Ways to build self-esteem with your child
Below are three easy tips to be mindful of when thinking of your child’s self-esteem.
- Establish a sense of personal capability
Giving your child appropriate responsibilities around the home helps them to realise what they are capable of and gives them opportunities to demonstrate their growing independence. This could be as simple as leading a prayer, helping with the groceries, or involving them in family discussions. In doing so, you are showing that you trust them and are giving them a chance to be responsible, which can lead to greater confidence and self-esteem.
- Show faith in their abilities
Encourage your child to take on new things, such as new hobbies or interests. Having a positive, but realistic expectation of their capabilities is a good way to promote children’s self-confidence.
Another way of showing your faith in them is to encourage children to participate in problem-solving. Remember that you are a supporter/helper, not a fixer. ‘Trial and error’ is how we learn too, and it’s important to give teens the chance to do the same. Don’t criticise it even if you think it won’t work, instead encourage persistence.
- Praise strengths instead of criticising weaknesses
No one is good at everything, but often teens will focus on the things they are not excelling at, rather than the things they are. By praising their strengths (no matter how little), you can help to build confidence and self-esteem, and will role-model a positive mindset. For example, helpfulness is an important strength, so watch for any positive contributions your child makes at home, even the little things – and give them praise. It’s not always about how well someone does something; focussing on their intent and effort helps to build higher self-esteem and means they are more likely to try new things.

TRINITY - WHOLE YEAR REFLECTION DAYS
While COVID has hampered many events these past few years, we are pleased to announce that whole year Reflection Days will be going ahead over the next few weeks.
This is an important opportunity for our students to come together in their year groups, take a break from the busyness of school and life for a day and experience moments of serenity, self-reflection and spirituality. Through the activities, they get to know others and themselves a little better and are invited to contemplate their own relationships with God and Jesus. These days are intended to be relaxed and enjoyable.
On each year group’s assigned day, students in that year group may wear comfortable, practical, casual clothing and enclosed shoes to school. They will be required to bring their recess, lunch and water with them to school, and break times will align with our regular school day, so the canteen will still be accessible to them.
Mobile phones are to remain in lockers and only accessed at recess and lunch as per the usual school expectations.
Students will attend homeroom as usual for rollmarking, prayer and Christian meditation before heading down to the Great Hall on their allocated day.
The retreat days are as follows:
Week 5
Year 8 - Wednesday 17August
Year 7 - Thursday 18 August
Year 10 - Friday 19 August

SCHOOL BOARD AND COMMUNITY COUNCIL REVIEW
The Catholic Education Commission endorsed the establishment of a Working Group to review various aspects of Archdiocesan School Board and Community Council models.
During the course of this year the Working Group has engaged in targeted consultation with internal stakeholders and has had some preliminary discussions with a narrow group of external stakeholders, including representatives from the Catholic School Parents Archdiocese of Canberra & Goulburn.
The Working Group is now seeking to draw on the experiences, expertise and perspectives of parents and carers, school staff and members of school communities through a process of general consultation. To this end, an Issues Paper has been drafted outlining the key issues that the Working Group has identified to date and posing a number of discussion questions that the Working Group is seeking responses to.
You can go to the webpage: https://cg.catholic.edu.au/school-board-and-community-council-review/foreword/ to submit a response to the questions posed in the Issues Paper.
The closing date for submissions is 2 September 2022.

1. A written note signed from their parent/carer. This note can be made in the Student diary on the day of the planned absence, or on a separate piece of paper.
2. The student then takes the note to Homeroom and asks their Homeroom teachers to sign it.
3. The note must also be signed by a House Coordinator.
4. The student comes to the front office with their signed note.
5. Front office staff assist student to sign out.
6. Students wait for parent/carer to collect them.
Please note, parent or carer MUST present to the Office to collect student.
The College should be notified of any foreseen student leave. An Application for Exemption Form is available from the College Office and is required to be completed by parents/carers and returned to the College at least 10 school days prior to any leave. Leave or travel over 10 days requires a different form; please contact Reception. If, during the period of leave, your child has assessments due they should also complete the Notification of Planned Absence form which is in the appendix of their student assessment handbook.
