Dear Parents and Carers
FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION
Earlier this week was the Feast of the Assumption where we celebrate Mary’s body ascending into heaven at the end of her earthly life. Each of us are called to be the best we can be as people of God. Mary, mother of Jesus, is a wonderful role model for all people. She represents unconditional love and compassion as well as unconditional commitment to being brave and courageous. This courage needs to be there in our everyday actions whether we are in the classroom, at home, on the sport field or facing the burdens in our life. It is an opportunity for us to remember the good fortune we have in our lives but at the same time keeping in our hearts the struggle of families who are confronted by violence and war in their homes.
ENROLMENTS
Due to increasing enrolments in 2023, we have a number of teaching positions advertised on the Catholic Education website. Currently we only have 23 places available for Year 7 2023. If you have a child who is in Year 6 and you are intending to enrol them at Trinity, please contact Renee Funnell, Executive Assistant to the Principal, as soon as possible so we can save a place for them. I would very disappointed if we did not have any places available for current Trinity families.
REGISTRATION 2023
In early March this year, Trinity Catholic College Goulburn participated in a registration and accreditation process which included an expert panel visiting the school for three days. The major purpose of the Registration and School Improvement Panel visit by expert reviewers from Catholic Education Canberra Goulburn was to ensure the College is meeting the requirements of the NSW Education Act 1990 in relation to curriculum, teaching staff and educational resources. On the basis of the Panel visit and consideration of the documentation, it was determined that the school is maintained and conducted in accordance with the provisions of the NSW Education Act 1990. The panel therefore recommended that Trinity Catholic College, Goulburn be placed upon the register of schools as a registered secondary school for a further period of five years to 2027. Thankfully and happily, we passed with flying colours! Please find a summary Registration report within Trinity Talk. Thank you to our support staff, teachers, Pastoral and Subject Coordinators, and Leadership Team for their amazing work in furthering the mission of Catholic education at Trinity Catholic College Goulburn. This work is passionately undertaken for our students and their families.
STAFFING
This week we farewell Ms Sophie Broadhead who is taking parental leave over the next 12 months. Mrs Jasmine Wareham will be relieving for Ms Broadhead in her role as Rugby Coordinator and Contact Teacher for Aboriginal Education. Please keep Sophie and her family in your prayers as they await the arrival of their next bundle of joy.
PRAY FOR OUR YEAR 12 STUDENTS
Please keep our Year 12 students in your prayers during this time and over their final weeks of secondary schooling. They have displayed remarkable resilience and adaptability over the last two and a half years. Keep on going, Year 12!
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave person is not the person who does not feel afraid, but the person who conquers that fear. ~Nelson Mandela~
PRAYER - DO NOT BE AFRAID
Courage, it is I! Do not be afraid.
When you fear for the future of your children, and wonder will they make it safely through life, do not be afraid.
When you fear that love may not last and your commitments will run dry, do not be afraid.
When death is close and you feel so confused and anxious, do not be afraid.
When God seems distant and you can’t find consolation, in all the moments of life when it seems like walking on water, in our fears and anxieties, our despair and our hopelessness, in mourning and sadness, and also in joy and hope, love and peace, when the water is calm and life seems to support us, we hear the word of God:
Courage, it is I! Do not be afraid.
Yours in faith, strength and unity

Embracing our Natural Selves - Social Media and the Danger of Filters
When it is used safely, social media can be a great tool for confidence building and connecting with peers and positive influences. Unfortunately, on the flipside, social media can be a channel for bullying, unrealistic beauty standards, and other behaviours that impact mental health and self-esteem. As parents and carers, it is important to be aware of this and to support young people to embrace their natural selves.
The problem with social media filters
With the click of a button, people can change their appearance in photos, editing their skin, hair and body, using filters and editing apps. Teenagers are already vulnerable to feeling insecure at times – this is a part of growing up and going through puberty. However, when they follow certain celebrities, influencers and even friends who use filters online, this is exacerbated. Social media for teens can consist of constant content, feedback and pressure regarding their appearance, which can be detrimental to their mental health.
Tips:
Educate young people – educating young people on the widespread use of filters online and the negative impacts this can have is important. The more knowledgeable a young person is, the more they can look out for negative online impacts. Parents who are worried that social media is negatively impacting their child’s self-image should talk about it with their child, set realistic expectations, and help them to monitor who is and isn’t a positive online influence.
Encourage time away from social media – it’s no secret that most teenagers are “addicted” to their phones, and social media in particular. Whenever possible, try to encourage time away from phones and social media. Spend time outside, encourage hobbies such as art or sport, organise time spent with friends. All of these activities are real life and present more opportunities for self-esteem growth than any social media app does.
Monitor openly with young people about social media and emotions – encourage discussions with young people about how they are feeling after time on social media, what they have noticed and why. Open communication is important to encourage young people to confide in you if they are experiencing negative impacts from social media.
Embrace your natural self – having discussions about how every person is different, the positives of this and ways to embrace that are so important for teenagers who are already susceptible to low self-esteem. Remember that positive role-modelling is also important here, as young people will be encouraged by you if you are embracing your natural self. TRINITY - WHOLE YEAR REFLECTION DAYS
While COVID has hampered many events these past few years, we are pleased to announce that whole year Reflection Days will be going ahead over the next few weeks.
This is an important opportunity for our students to come together in their year groups, take a break from the busyness of school and life for a day and experience moments of serenity, self-reflection and spirituality. Through the activities, they get to know others and themselves a little better and are invited to contemplate their own relationships with God and Jesus. These days are intended to be relaxed and enjoyable.
On each year group’s assigned day, students in that year group may wear comfortable, practical, casual clothing and enclosed shoes to school. They will be required to bring their recess, lunch and water with them to school, and break times will align with our regular school day, so the canteen will still be accessible to them.
Mobile phones are to remain in lockers and only accessed at recess and lunch as per the usual school expectations.
Students will attend homeroom as usual for rollmarking, prayer and Christian meditation before heading down to the Great Hall on their allocated day.
Year 7 and 8 Retreat Days were completed yesterday and today. The upcoming retreat days are as follows:
Week 5
Year 10 - Friday 19 August
Week 6
Year 9 - Wednesday 24 August
Week 7
Year 12 - Thursday 1 September

UNWELL STUDENTS
If students are displaying flu-like symptoms at school, parents will be required to collect their child from school and have a COVID test. If students are unwell, they must remain at home. Please continue to inform the front office via phone 4821 3600 or via email absences.tccg@cg.catholic.edu.au if your child tests positive for COVID.
HOUSEHOLD CONTACTS
Parents are required to follow NSW Health directions when their child is deemed a household close contact and must notify the school to advise they are a household contact. It is strongly recommended that if a student is a household contact, they study from home where it is practical to do so. A household contact must wear a face mask in any indoor setting that is not their own home, if they are aged 12 years and over. Only students in Years 7 to 12 will be required to wear a mask when attending school if they are a houshold contact. Where a student attends school they must undertake a COVID test prior to returning to school and then each day for 5 days and may only attend a school if they have no symptoms.
Enrol now to secure your child's place!
Online Enrolments:
Mathematics Help is held in the Library on the following days:
- Tuesday (Year 11 and 12) 8am-8.55am
- Friday (Years 7-12) 8am-8.55am
SCHOOL BOARD AND COMMUNITY COUNCIL REVIEW
The Catholic Education Commission endorsed the establishment of a Working Group to review various aspects of Archdiocesan School Board and Community Council models.
During the course of this year the Working Group has engaged in targeted consultation with internal stakeholders and has had some preliminary discussions with a narrow group of external stakeholders, including representatives from the Catholic School Parents Archdiocese of Canberra & Goulburn.
The Working Group is now seeking to draw on the experiences, expertise and perspectives of parents and carers, school staff and members of school communities through a process of general consultation. To this end, an Issues Paper has been drafted outlining the key issues that the Working Group has identified to date and posing a number of discussion questions that the Working Group is seeking responses to.
You can go to the webpage: https://cg.catholic.edu.au/school-board-and-community-council-review/foreword/ to submit a response to the questions posed in the Issues Paper.
The closing date for submissions is 2 September 2022.
Please see attached an information guide on how to use the parent portal for absences.
When your child needs to leave School early, please make sure they complete the following steps:
1. A written note signed from their parent/carer. This note can be made in the Student diary on the day of the planned absence, or on a separate piece of paper.
2. The student then takes the note to Homeroom and asks their Homeroom teachers to sign it.
3. The note must also be signed by a House Coordinator.
4. The student comes to the front office with their signed note.
5. Front office staff assist student to sign out.
6. Students wait for parent/carer to collect them.
Please note, parent or carer MUST present to the Office to collect student.
The College should be notified of any foreseen student leave. An Application for Exemption Form is available from the College Office and is required to be completed by parents/carers and returned to the College at least 10 school days prior to any leave. Leave or travel over 10 days requires a different form; please contact Reception. If, during the period of leave, your child has assessments due they should also complete the Notification of Planned Absence form which is in the appendix of their student assessment handbook.
