UNWELL STUDENTS
If students are displaying flu-like symptoms at school, parents will be required to collect their child from school and have a COVID test. If students are unwell, they must remain at home. Please continue to inform the front office via phone 4821 3600 or via email absences.tccg@cg.catholic.edu.au if your child tests positive for COVID.
HOUSEHOLD CONTACTS
Parents are required to follow NSW Health directions when their child is deemed a household close contact and must notify the school to advise they are a household contact. It is strongly recommended that if a student is a household contact, they study from home where it is practical to do so. A household contact must wear a face mask in any indoor setting that is not their own home, if they are aged 12 years and over. Only students in Years 7 to 12 will be required to wear a mask when attending school if they are a houshold contact. Where a student attends school they must undertake a COVID test prior to returning to school and then each day for 5 days and may only attend a school if they have no symptoms.
A team of NSW Health Nurse immunisers will be visiting Trinity on Thursday 8 September to continue with the following vaccine program being offered to students in 2022:

Quick Guide to Conflict Resolution
Conflict is an unavoidable part of life, and for teenagers and young people, it is a way to learn and develop social skills, resilience and emotional intelligence. For the most part, young people experience conflict at school within their friendship groups, and this can cause distress and worry. Healthy conflict resolution does not always come naturally, especially in school where everyone is still learning to control and express their emotions. Below are some tips and strategies to help guide young people through conflict and to build healthy emotional habits while doing so.
Is it conflict or difference?
Sometimes for young people, what they can see as conflict, a personal attack, or fighting, can actually be a simple difference of opinion or a misunderstanding. Remind them that it’s okay for people to have different opinions, and to see situations differently. This does not mean that they are “fighting” with their friend/peer, it just means that people see the world in different ways. Discuss with them how they can respect differences and encourage them to “agree to disagree” with respect and kindness.
Remind them of what they can and can’t control
It is important to remind young people of what they can and can’t control – using the below image can be a helpful way to explain this. Understanding that other peoples’ actions are out of their control can help young people to let go of anger and frustration in times of disagreement.
Practice ‘I’ statements
It is natural to feel defensive during conflict, and to use ‘You Statements’ such as “you always do this” or “you’re in the wrong”. Statements like this often escalate the situation and cause the other person to become defensive as well, which is why it’s important calmly express how you feel personally and give others the chance to do the same. ‘I Statements’ are a useful way to do this.
An “I Statement” tells the other person how you feel, when and why you feel it, and what you need in order to feel better. For example, “I feel upset because it hurt my feelings when you told me that I wasn’t playing the game well. I need some space to calm down and then we can talk about it.” This deescalates the situation and communicates what is needed in order for things to get better and for the conflict to be resolved. It also encourages the sharing of feelings, which is a healthy habit for mental wellbeing. Practicing these statements with young people can encourage this healthy habit and will be beneficial for them when they experience conflict.
Model healthy conflict resolution at home
Young people model much of the behaviour that they see at home, so practicing healthy conflict resolution is a great way to help them build the skills needed to calmly deal with the inevitable conflict they will come across. It’s a good idea to have rules and boundaries in place for conflict resolution at home. This may look like encouraging:
- the use of respectful language
- active listening
- sharing feelings and thoughts
- calm discussions
- open communication
If the conflict is online:

Please see attached an information guide on how to use the parent portal for absences.
When your child needs to leave School early, please make sure they complete the following steps:
1. A written note signed from their parent/carer. This note can be made in the Student diary on the day of the planned absence, or on a separate piece of paper.
2. The student then takes the note to Homeroom and asks their Homeroom teachers to sign it.
3. The note must also be signed by a House Coordinator.
4. The student comes to the front office with their signed note.
5. Front office staff assist student to sign out.
6. Students wait for parent/carer to collect them.
Please note, parent or carer MUST present to the Office to collect student.
The College should be notified of any foreseen student leave. An Application for Exemption Form is available from the College Office and is required to be completed by parents/carers and returned to the College at least 10 school days prior to any leave. Leave or travel over 10 days requires a different form; please contact Reception. If, during the period of leave, your child has assessments due they should also complete the Notification of Planned Absence form which is in the appendix of their student assessment handbook.
