The Year 8/9 Trinity Netball Team, Trinity Tigers, played their last game on Saturday which was the semi-finals. Even though the girls were defeated they remained positive with smiles on their faces.
The girls have all played amazing throughout the season displaying excellent commitment, dedication and teamwork in every match. The girls have continued to work well together as a team and ensured all players were included. The girls have done a great job at representing Trinity.
A special thank you to Jade Marks who has coached them this season.
Well done Jade and girls!
Dear Parents and Carers
WELLBEING WEEK
This week at Trinity we celebrated Wellbeing Week. There is always more work to be done every day supporting those struggling with life’s ups and downs. R U OK? Day was held today Thursday 8 September, 2022. It is the national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that every day is the day to ask, “Are you OK?”. This year's message is: A conversation can save a life. We are each encouraged to start a conversation with people around us who may be struggling with life. There are four simple steps to having a conversation that could change a life.
- Ask R U OK?
- Listen
- Encourage action
- Check in
You do not need to have any qualifications to ask these questions other than just being a good friend and a good listener.
Thank you to Mrs Katie Suro, Ms Kimmie Murchie and Ms Madi Burns, our CatholicCare School and Family Counsellors, as well as the Student Representative Council for organising daily activities focusing on ”Coping and Connecting” in the different domains which contribute to our wellbeing including spiritual, cognitive, social, physical and emotional.
FEAST OF THE NATIVITY OF OUR LADY
Today is the feast day of the Birth of Our Lady, Mary. Mostly, feast days celebrate the death of saints but the Virgin Mary is one of the few in the Church who has their birth date celebrated. This day is a reminder to each of us of the importance of the mother of Jesus and the importance of all mother figures in our lives. It is also the Feast Day of Blessed Frederic Ozanam who founded a charity which became the modern St Vincent de Paul Society.
PILOT PROGRAM WITH NSW HEALTH
Trinity will be participating in a pilot project in collaboration with NSW Health to improve communication between a school and mental health services, when a student presents to an Emergency Department with mental health issues. The pilot will commence with six Government schools in the Queanbeyan area, an Independent school and Trinity representing the Catholic education sector. The trial will commence next term and continue for the next six months. This is an excellent opportunity which should bring benefits to our school, in terms of awareness about how to have more effective communication with these other services dedicated to the mental health of our students.
PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Parent-Teacher Interviews will be conducted this afternoon via phone from 4pm until 6pm. My apologies to families who have missed out on booking an appointment time. This will be reviewed to ensure families do not miss out next time. If you did miss out, please contact your child’s teachers and the teachers will happily provide feedback about how your child is progressing with their learning.
SUMMER UNIFORM
The commencement of Term 4 means students return to the College next term in their full summer uniform. It would be appreciated if parents and carers would ensure students return with all required uniform items including a haircut if required. Polished shoes would be appreciated as well so a reminder to your children to do this would be much appreciated.
Please keep our wonderful Year 12 students in your prayers as they move through the final two weeks of their secondary school life at Trinity and commence the HSC Examinations at the beginning of next term. As well, we need to remember in prayer our hardworking Year 11 students who commence their annual Examinations tomorrow.
Enjoy the weekend with your family.
May God bless you and your family

How to Have Conversations About Mental Health
Wellbeing Week 2022 has been a great opportunity to for the Trinity community to learn all about wellbeing. This year’s theme, ‘Coping and Connecting’, has been the framework for discussion about healthy coping skills and the importance of social connection. In an address at the College Assembly yesterday, and in light of RUOK day today, Mrs Suro and I discussed tips for students around having conversations about mental health.
Talking about mental health is one of the most effective ways to support each other. When students are feeling down and want to talk to their friends about mental health, the below tips are encouraged.
- Ask them if it’s okay to talk about it - we need to remember that our friends may have boundaries and that’s okay. Simply saying something like “I’m feeling really down, can we have a chat?” is a great way to check in and see if they are in the right headspace to talk about mental health.
- Respect that your friends may not always know what to say – let them know that you don’t expect them to have answers or a solution, but that you just need to vent and for them to listen.
- Be honest about what you need – while we are struggling, we don’t always want to participate in our normal activities, and we can sometimes find certain topics or words triggering. It’s important to let your friends know about anything that seems to make you feel worse, so that they can do their best to support you.
These are some of the DON’TS we discussed:
- Don’t bottle everything up - this can cause you to “boil over” and get angry or annoyed at people. Even if you don’t mean to, you may take out your emotions on others which can cause fights, or it can upset friends who are doing their best as well.
- Don’t overshare – we know that speaking about our challenges and emotions is a positive thing, but we need to remember that our friends and peers are not trained mental health professionals, so we must be careful about how much detail we give, especially if we are experiencing severe mental health challenges including thoughts of harm and suicide. When this is the case, it’s best to let a trusted adult know those details so that they can provide you with the support you need.
- Don’t only tell your friend – while your friends can provide support, it’s important to also let an adult know what’s going on for you. Telling an adult as well gives you more support, and adults can generally do more practically to assist you.
Talking to a trusted adult is strongly encouraged when students are feeling down or are struggling with mental health. We suggest:
- Letting them know that it is about mental health. Adults generally have a lot going on and may not always have time to sit down and chat. By letting them know what it is about, the adult is informed that it is an important conversation, and that they need to take the time to support you.
- Be honest and detailed – talking openly about mental health struggles can be hard, but it’s important to let the adult know exactly what is going on for you, so that they can provide you with the best support and guidance.
If you can’t find a trusted adult to tell - these organisations are here to help, they are free and anonymous mental health supports and have telephone and online chat services.

UNWELL STUDENTS
If students are displaying flu-like symptoms at school, parents will be required to collect their child from school and have a COVID test. If students are unwell, they must remain at home. Please continue to inform the front office via phone 4821 3600 or via email absences.tccg@cg.catholic.edu.au if your child tests positive for COVID.
HOUSEHOLD CONTACTS
Parents are required to follow NSW Health directions when their child is deemed a household close contact and must notify the school to advise they are a household contact. It is strongly recommended that if a student is a household contact, they study from home where it is practical to do so. A household contact must wear a face mask in any indoor setting that is not their own home, if they are aged 12 years and over. Only students in Years 7 to 12 will be required to wear a mask when attending school if they are a houshold contact. Where a student attends school they must undertake a COVID test prior to returning to school and then each day for 5 days and may only attend a school if they have no symptoms.
