Swimming Carnival House Results
In 4th place on 759 points was Mackillop.
In 3rd place on 949 points was Rice.
There was only 8 points difference between 3rd place and 2nd place; this means an extra swimmer at a long distance carnival coming 2nd or even 8 more participation swims or cheering that little bit harder in the war cry.
The winners of the Swimming Carnival blitzed the 2nd place house by 733 points. The first place winners finished on 1690 points. This came down to complete participation in all events, both competitive and non-competitive, and in the long distance carnival. The winners of the 2020 College Swimming Carnival was McAuley, making Keating this year’s runners up in 2nd place.
If anything can be learnt from McAuley at the swimming carnival, it’s PARTICIPATION IS KEY!! With this in mind, it is important that we all participate in the upcoming Cross Country next Friday to get house points. The first six people to cross the finishing line in their age group, progress onto the next level and receive more points for their house.
Congratulations to John Edwards who has been selected for the Basketball NSW Talented Athlete Program for 2020.
Over 630 athletes trialled for this program.
Well done John!

Youth Ministry Equipping School - Hannah Garton
Over the weekend, 27 February to 1 March, Mr O’Connell, our new Youth Minister Gerard Teng, Emily McCormack and myself attended the Oceania Youth Ministry Equipping School. I loved the environment, and the energy everyone possessed was quite inspiring. This event comprised of keynote addresses and workshops with the intention of informing us on certain topics such as our Call to Follow Jesus, the sacraments we undergo, and why it is we actually experience them, as well as learning about the Holy Spirit and the gifts brought by the Holy Spirit. I really enjoyed the night-time experiences, the second night being a chance for Reconciliation and Forgiveness, and the third night being Baptism in the Holy Spirit. During these nights, everyone was so reverent, and it was beautiful to have been able to participate in these experiences; I was in awe at the sense of community, belonging and acceptance from everyone who attended. I knew that the Equipping School is used to equip and “resource youth for the mission of the Catholic Church”, however, I wasn’t entirely sure what this meant. I wasn’t sure of what I wanted to gain or take away from the event, but after participating in the Equipping School, I believe the most valuable thing I took away was the importance of bringing that same energy I felt from everyone there, back to Trinity. One of the workshops Emily and I completed, called Follow the Leader, talked about how someone who begins to lead may appear silly and be ridiculed for their beliefs. This is also found in the first follower of that leader; they may be viewed as silly and weird as well. However, you can’t be afraid to put yourself out there, to be potentially ridiculed, or to appear a bit silly. You shouldn’t be afraid to express what you believe.

SPECIAL REPORT: Coronavirus - a guide for parents
Coronavirus is an evolving international health concern. Around the world, people are being affected in many ways. Individuals of all ages from numerous nationalities are being diagnosed with the virus –– it doesn’t discriminate. Although children are considered at lower risk of infection, they are not immune to the multitude of news reports regularly seen or heard in the media.
This epidemic is a cause for great concern to parents, but it is also very worrying to young people. Many are wondering how best to discuss this epidemic in a way that will be reassuring to kids without making them feel more worried than what they may be already. Parents should not avoid such a discussion with their kids. Not talking about something can often make them worry more.
Although most children will have already heard about the coronavirus, it is important for parents and care-givers to take this opportunity to convey the facts about it and set the emotional tone. This may help kids feel more informed and reassured. Involving them and encouraging self-efficacy can also give them a sense of control and purpose.
In this Special Report, parents and caregivers will be provided with some guidelines on how best to approach this topic whilst still ensuring the wellbeing of their child. We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback.
If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.
