Dear Parents and/or Caregivers
ARCHBISHOP VISITS TRINITY
Archbishop Christopher Prowse was given a great Trinity welcome last Thursday when he visited our College. The students and staff were excited to extend their hospitality to Archbishop Christopher as our chief evangeliser and educator. To inaugurate Trinity’s Year of St Joseph, Archbishop Christopher met with our students and staff in prayer, and to also commission and bless our new youth ministry team. During his homily, Archbishop Christopher encouraged students to be like St Joseph, the father of Jesus. St Joseph lived in the shadows, never seeking anything for himself but always being ready to serve the will of God. Like Mary and Joseph looked for Christ and found him in the temple, Archbishop Christopher inspired students and staff to keep searching for Jesus too. Archbishop Christopher was able to enjoy morning tea with the staff and then visit classrooms where he engaged in a variety of discussions with the students about Lake Mungo, Mesopotamia, being wise in commerce, Aboriginal spirituality and Orthodox Judaism. Fr Alex Osborne and Gerard Teng, Youth Ministry Leader, also joined His Grace for these visits. Archbishop Christopher concluded his pastoral visit by meeting with the youth ministry team and our Year 12 leaders. He spent a beautiful time in prayer with the students, where following his example, we brought our petitions to the foot of the cross of St Francis of Assisi. Thank you to Mr O’Connell who coordinated the Archbishop’s visit and congratulations to our students involved in music ministry who played together for the first time under Mr Hol’s guidance. Thank you Mr Hol.
NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION AGAINST BULLYING AND VIOLENCE
Students and teachers will be participating in the National Day of Action Against Bullying tomorrow. Australian schools will stand united in their communities to celebrate the 11th National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA). The National Day of Action is Australia’s key anti-bullying event for schools, The theme for 2021 is Take Action Together. Trinity Catholic College is registered as a National Day of Action school and we stand united against bullying and violence with school communities across the nation.
The national definition of bullying for Australian schools says:
Bullying is an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm. It can involve an individual or a group misusing their power, or perceived power, over one or more persons who feel unable to stop it from happening.
Bullying can happen in person or online, via various digital platforms and devices and it can be obvious (overt) or hidden (covert). Bullying behaviour is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time (for example, through sharing of digital records).
Bullying of any form or for any reason can have immediate, medium and long-term effects on those involved, including bystanders. Single incidents and conflict or fights between equals, whether in person or online, are not defined as bullying.
If you have concerns about bullying, please do not hesitate in making contact with the Year Coordinators, Assistant Principals or myself. Bullying is not tolerated at Trinity but we must work together to ensure a safe, welcoming community for all our students.

ENROLMENTS FOR 2022
We had 140 people visit Trinity for our Open Day Tours last week. Because of COVID restrictions, tours were held after school in smaller groups and this actually worked really well. It was great to see so many people interested in Trinity Catholic College. My thanks to our Year 12 student leaders, Emily McCormack, Katelyn Mateta, Lachlan Wray, Ella Park, Jonah Gear, Karla Moore, Claire Pettit, Mason Young, Tyson Allwright and Maddison Regterschot, who assisted with the tours. Thank you as well to Ms Shinfield, Mr Morton, Mr O’Connell, Mrs O’Brien and Mrs Miners. We also had a great roll up to the Year 7-2022 Information Evening on Tuesday. Thank you to our Coordinators and teachers for being available to meet families interested in Trinity for 2022.
Enjoy the weekend!
Yours in faith, strength and unity
Gaye McManus
Principal
TCCG STRATEGIC GOALS 2021
- To improve student learning through building teacher capacity, using data to inform classroom teaching and learning, and strengthening leadership in learning.
- To improve wellbeing (staff and students).
- To be an explicitly Catholic community welcoming to all.
NAPLAN ONLINE 2021 – YEAR 7 AND 9
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a point in time assessment of literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.
Our school will be participating in NAPLAN Online between 11 and 21 May 2021.
In preparation for NAPLAN Online, our school will also be participating in practice tests between 22 March and 1 April. The practice test is a trial-run and key preparation activity for NAPLAN Online in May. It is not an assessment of student ability and the tests will not be marked.
Excessive preparation for NAPLAN Online is not recommended. Students can use the public demonstration site (https://www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public-demonstration-site) to familiarise themselves with the types of questions and tools available in the NAPLAN Online tests.
If you have any questions about NAPLAN Online, please contact your child’s teacher.
If students are displaying flu-like symptoms at school, parents will be required to collect their child from school and have a COVID test. If students are unwell, they must remain at home. Please continue to inform the school via phone if your child tests positive for COVID.
