Dear Parents and Carers
RUGBY GALA DAY
We had a fantastic day of trial games against Canberra Grammar School a few weeks ago. It was the first time in eighteen months that rugby had been played on campus. There were many supporters who came to watch the games being a truly great community event. Thanks so much to all players, coaches, managers, parent, supporters and staff. Particular thanks to Mr Rees, Rugby Coordinator, and Mr Morton, President of the Trinity Rugby Club, for their leadership.
Following the gala day, I received a beautiful email from Dennis Hughes, the Referee Development Officer for the ACT Rugby Referees Association. Dennis expressed his gratitude for the support provided to their association in conducting referee development courses at our College. About the new referees, Dennis wrote:
Under the guidance and coordination provided by Mr Evan Rees, our Association was able to provide instruction to twelve of your students in the mysterious art of Rugby Refereeing, with the very pleasing result that seven of them officiated in their first ever games on Saturday 24 April at the gala day with Canberra Grammar.
For the young men involved, they discovered that coordinating 30 players all tearing around a rugby field can be a daunting exercise. While initially filled with trepidation they responded very well and helped manage some very entertaining games, safely, and in good spirits. Of those who participated on the day, I would like to highlight the effort of Max Charles, who, despite a broken finger, refereed 60 minutes of an U/13 game, and acquitted himself admirably.
Without the assistance on the day of the seven young men, who also went on to play later in the day, our Association would not have been able to provide referees for all the games, as we are rather hard pressed for qualified referees. Their willingness to contribute and the good humour and determination they exhibited reflects very well on them and their College.
Congratulations to Charlie Moroney, Bailey Shipp, Patrick Craig, Max Charles, Jack Page, Joshua Evans and Matthew Seaman who refereed that weekend. Their hard work is appreciated and acknowledged in undertaking the referee’s course but also the service they provided to the ACT Rugby Referee Association and the College.
YEAR 7 CAMP
Year 7 students were very excited yesterday as they travelled to Stanwell Tops for their Camp. We wish them all the very best and look forward to their stories upon their return. Thank you to Mrs Dunwoodie, Mr Arnold, Mrs Dorsett, Mr Treloar, Mr Sampson and Mrs O’Brien for being so willing to provide this opportunity to our students.
REMINDERS
Year 7 and 9 students will sit NAPLAN tests next week commencing on Tuesday 11 May 2021.

AN IRISH BLESSING FOR MOTHERS
There is but one and only one,
Whose love will fail you never.
One who lives from sun to sun,
With constant fond endeavour.
There is but one and only one
On earth there is no other.
In heaven a noble work was done
When God gave us a Mother.

SCHOOL TV: CELEBRATING MOTHERS DAY
SPECIAL REPORT: Celebrating Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day originated from humble beginnings in 1908 as a simple tradition to honour all mothers, living and deceased. However, it did not take long for florists, confectioners and card companies to jump onboard and commercialise the day, much to the disappointment of its founder, Ann Jarvis.
Mother’s Day is a good annual reminder to say thanks to the mums and other special carers who play an important role in our lives, but it is essential we mark the day with love and sincerity. This year is especially important due to the recent pandemic, where mothers played multiple roles over recent months providing care and support to those they love under difficult circumstances. Mothers will often put the needs of others above their own, so it is paramount to remind them to take care of themselves also, especially when it comes to mental health.
Research has shown that women experience some mental health conditions more so than men and at much higher rates. There are many factors that can impact a woman’s wellbeing physically and emotionally. Seeking effective treatment can enable her to engage more readily in everyday activities and fulfil the needs of her children and family.
This Special Report highlights the role mothers play in the developmental growth of her children and the importance of self-care for good mental health. We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback.
If this Special Report raises any concerns for you, a loved one or the wellbeing of your child, please seek medical or professional help.
